The Mazda CX-50 Hybrid is a full hybrid (HEV) that combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with a trio of electric motors. The vehicle primarily runs on gas power, but the electric motors can be used to propel the vehicle for short distances and at low speeds, it reduces engine idling and powers auxiliary systems. The rear motor is used to power the rear wheels when e-AWD is engaged. Electric power comes from an HEV battery pack which charges through regenerative braking and the gas engine.
