How MAZDA Got Started

The company’s name actually didn’t officially become Mazda until 1984, but back in 1920, the company we know today as Mazda Motor Corporation was incorporated as Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd, then changed to Toyo Kogyo Co. in 1927. In the beginning, Mazda made three-wheeled motorcycles known as “Autorickshaws” which became the highlight of sponsored events in the 1930s. This innovation led to the Mazda brand becoming more well-known as a serious automotive company.

By 1940, the first passenger vehicle was created, Mazda knew it had to get creative to keep up with the competition. So, the automaker set out to fulfill the need for more affordable vehicles with the creation of Mazda’s legendary rotary engine.

Why Does MAZDA Stand Out From Other Brands?

Over the years, Mazda has morphed into more of a luxury brand thanks to the sleek styling of vehicles such as the Mazda3. Although the outside appearance has undergone a makeover, Dartmouth drivers can still depend on Mazda to deliver quality vehicles at an affordable price.

Skyactiv® Technology is a major component of why Mazda stands out from other automotive brands. Skyactiv® Technology is the philosophy that drives the design of Mazda vehicles and has taken the place of the original rotary engine by upgrading to technology with impressive fuel efficiency. Mazda has always improved and advanced throughout the decades and plans to continue in the future.
