The 2022 Mazda MX-30 EV lineup will see the addition of a plug-in hybrid. This model will be equipped with a pistonless rotary engine, known as the Mazda MX-30 EV range extender. A rotary engine has a couple of advantages over a conventional piston engine that make it ideal for a hybrid vehicle. For one thing, rotary engines are smaller and thus leave more room for the electric motor components and its batteries. Secondly the rotary engine, instead of sending power directly to the wheels, will be sending it to the motor, truly extending the range.
